Small businesses added 55,000 new jobs in December

Intuit's Small Businesses Employment Index showed growth for the month of December, with 55,000 new jobs created.

Employees also worked more hours and made more money, according to the Mountain View-based company's (NASDAQ: INTU) report.

Small business hourly employees worked approximately 110.3 hours in December, or a 25.4-hour workweek, compared to 109.9 hours in November. And their average monthly salary was $2,706 in December, compared to $2,695 in November.
